Rep. Raja Krishnamoorthi of Illinois responded Wednesday to Palm Bay, Florida, Councilman Chandler Langevin, who had told him in an X post to “take your curry and go home.” Krishnamoorthi wrote: “I’m staying. So is the curry. America is my home. No bigot gets to decide who is American, who belongs here, or what they have for dinner.”

Langevin’s September 11 post replied to Krishnamoorthi’s criticism of a Department of Homeland Security social-media post about a person identified as “Mr. Singh.” Krishnamoorthi had argued that the government should not imply that someone’s faith or heritage makes that person less American. Langevin’s reply did not address the substance of that criticism.

The exchange renewed scrutiny of earlier remarks by Langevin. Hindustan Times reported that Palm Bay’s City Council censured him in 2025 and asked Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis to suspend him after comments targeting Krishnamoorthi and Indian Americans. The council later approved a settlement with Langevin in February 2026, according to the report.

Krishnamoorthi’s response came days after a separate dispute involving Bo French, the Republican nominee for Texas railroad commissioner. French posted a photo of University of Texas students, many appearing to be South Asian, and said Americans had been “displaced by foreigners.” Chron reported that Republican officials including Sen. John Cornyn and Texas House Speaker Dustin Burrows condemned French’s remarks. The French and Langevin posts were separate incidents.
