A September 19 Stat Crux Report post shows people wearing Mike Caruso campaign apparel and distributing literature. The activity comes after Caruso, the suspended Palm Beach County clerk of the circuit court and comptroller, was arrested in August and charged with five felonies.

The charges are kidnapping, lewd or lascivious molestation, lewd or lascivious exhibition, luring or enticing a child, and child abuse causing mental injury. They are allegations, not convictions. WPEC reported that a judge set a $160,000 bond and released Caruso, while barring contact with the alleged victim or witnesses; prosecutors later asked the court to reverse that decision.

The source post also says that Caruso sent more than $1 billion to Israel by investing in bonds. Contemporary reporting described a narrower action: Caruso announced a $350.5 million purchase of Israel Bonds in January that brought Palm Beach County’s cumulative holdings to exactly $1 billion, or about 16 percent of its investment portfolio.

The distinction matters because the $1 billion was the county’s total position after the new purchase, not an amount invested solely by Caruso. The campaign activity shown in the post does not change the unresolved status of the criminal case, and Caruso is presumed innocent unless proven guilty.
